What is RYLA?

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training program for high school students in District 6420.
Talented young people attend a weekend camp, starting on Friday evening and ending late Sunday morning, organized by Rotarians in district 6420.

RYLA is usually held the first weekend in May.  Students must be sponsored by their local Rotary Club and applications must be signed by the school principal and the students parents.

Participants’ expenses are often paid by sponsoring Rotary clubs. The RYLA program enables young people improve leadership and communication skills and meet Rotarians while having fun and making friends. For young adults, RYLA provides the opportunity to refine skills and explore pertinent topics with their peers and elders. For Rotarians, RYLA offers the chance to help develop leaders, share valuable expertise, and bridge the gap between generations.

*Changes for 2021
Due to the pandemic, RYLA 2020 was canceled and RYLA 2021 will be presented in a different format. Instead of an in-person weekend camp experience, we will be hosting a 3-part virtual leadership series called VYRAL. Registration is still handled through your local Rotary club. Students can attend one, two or all three VYRAL events. Check out the brochure using the link on the left side navigation pane.

RYLA will help you:
Develop leadership skills.
• Increase self-confidence.
• Gain exposure to a variety of issues and people.
• Improve career skills and knowledge.
