SYCAMORE ROTARIANS RAISE FUNDS FOR UKRAINE REFUGEE HELP

The Rotary Club of Sycamore closed out year 2021-2022 by serving over 500 dinners at a drive-thru event to raise money to help refugees in Ukraine.  The event was held June 23 at the St. Mary’s Parish Activity Center in Sycamore.

Profits from ticket sales plus additional donations means $3,000 will go for customized supplies needed by Ukrainian refugees displaced by the fighting in their country. The supplies will be furnished by ShelterBox USA, the non-profit organization that provides items such as tents, blankets, solar lights, water filters, and hygiene kits for emergency survival.

A steady stream of cars passed through the pick-up spot from 4:30 to 6:30 PM.  More than 20 Rotarians helped pack the meals consisting of pork chops and side dishes provided by Country Store and Catering of Sycamore, collected tickets, or delivered the meals to the drivers.

Rotary Club of Sycamore President for 2021-2022 Paulette Renault thanked the volunteer club members and those who purchased tickets for helping make a difference for those facing hardships because of the war in Ukraine.

The Rotary Club of Sycamore has over 100 members including a subgroup at the Oak Crest senior facility in DeKalb and a young professionals Rotaract chapter.  The club also sponsors an Interact chapter.  The Rotary Club of Sycamore meets Wednesdays at noon at St. Mary’s Parish Activity Center, 312 Waterman Street in Sycamore.
