ROTARY DISTRICT 6420 CONFERENCE – April 29, 30, and May 1, 2022
Instead of cold temperatures and snow it’s time to think about 70 degree days, bright sunshine, and a morning walk along the Mississippi River. Sound good? There is a walking/biking path along the Mississippi River right outside the door of the new Hyatt Hotel at The Bend in East Moline, Illinois, where the District 6420 Conference will take place on April 29, 30, and May 1.
Good afternoon, Rotary baseball fans. We’re now past the half way point in our first annual World Series of Giving competition, having completed 5 innings of play. For anyone who thought that recent winter weather was going to cool our clubs’ competitive spirit, just take a look at this month’s standings!
We are now over halfway through the Rotary year. I hope you are remembering The Rotary Foundation in your charitable giving this year. Our current Annual Fund giving is at $110,000 and PolioPlus giving is at $28,000. Although we are doing well compared to this time last year, I know there are still many Rotarians in our district who have not yet made a contribution. Please consider getting your contribution in soon rather than later. We know this is a significant part of being a Rotarian as The Rotary Foundation is the heart and soul of who we are. Rotary Direct is easy to set up on My Rotary and allows you to set up your giving in a way that works for you, whether it is monthly, quarterly, bi-annually or annually.
The Loves Park Rotary Club has a history of strong leadership, people of action, and amazing Rotarians, but even prior to the pandemic, there were changes in the works. The club currently has 37 members including their 815 Satellite Club, but membership has remained the same for a number of years.
The Sycamore Rotary Club finished 2021 by living up to its motto of “Service Above Self”.
On November 13, 50 Rotarians and family members joined other volunteers at The Suter Company for the annual “Make a Difference DKC Mobile Pack” event packing meals for “Feed My Starving Children”. Younger Middle School Rotary Interactors also had an enthusiastic team working the mobile pack.
In early December members volunteered for the Salvation Army Bell Ringing at the Sycamore Jewel Store continuing a long time tradition, even with singing some Christmas carols. Thanks to all the shoppers who encouraged us and supported our efforts!
Rotary International started as a meeting held by Paul P. Harris and three other business acquaintances on February 23, 1905. Learn more about the history of our organization here as we celebrate 117 years of service!
