Hello once again, Rotary baseball fans.  We’ve just watched one of the greatest hitting displays in World Series of Giving history.  Many of us thought last year couldn’t be equaled, let alone surpassed.  Yet here we are, up 37% in total giving and 42% in per capita giving compared to just last year.  And that, as they say, is a winner!

To likely no one’s surprise at this stage of the 2022-23 contest, the Princeton club has knocked it out of the park in terms of scoring, with over 36 runs on the board.  They are indeed our 2023 World Series of Giving winner.  Please join me in a round of very well-deserved appreciation for the outstanding commitment that the members of this club have demonstrated to the Rotary Foundation!

We will be celebrating with the trophy presentation to the Princeton club at Rotary Day at the Ball Park, to be held on Sunday July 16 at 1:00PM at Modern Woodmen Park – home of the Quad Cities River Bandits -- in Davenport, IA.  If you’d like join us for the trophy presentation (before the game) and the game itself, the following is a link to the Bandit’s website where game tickets can be purchased.

Hope as many of us as possible can come over for the celebration.

On a personal note, I want to thank each of you and your clubs for your unflinching support for World Series of Giving these past 2 years, as I am hanging it up, so to speak, as your D6420 Foundation baseball commissioner.  It’s truly been a blast to watch our clubs duke it out each month, and a privilege to bring you the inning recaps.  If you’ve “heard” a little Ernie Harwell, Bob Prince, the immortal Vin Scully, and in my opinion perhaps the greatest all-around sports announcer in history – Jack Buck – in these monthly messages. . .well, let’s just say that was far from unintended!  I grew up listening to these and other broadcast greats from the 50s through the turn of the century, and it was a treat to “borrow” several of their famous words & phrases.

Again, congratulations to the 2022-23 World Series of Giving champions -- the Princeton Rotary Club!  And on behalf of the Rotary District 6420 Foundation Committee, so long for just awhile. - Jim 'Mac' MacMurdo

Here is the final tally from the World Series month of June.
