Winter is the worst!  The lawn and garden seem dead and everything is dull and dreary.  At least that is what it looks like, right?  Fortunately the perennials and pollinators are tucked safely away resting and waiting for the temperatures to consistently be in the 60s again.  Isn’t nature amazing?
I know we all get excited about cleaning up our yards and gardens as soon as we have a few nice days but try to remember the leaf litter and dormant plants in your yard is exactly where the pollinators are sleeping.  They won’t emerge until it is warm enough for them to find something to eat so wait until the dandelions are blooming before you disturb their resting place!

Winter is also the best time to plan for the coming spring and summer (spring starts Thursday March 20, 2025 at 4:01 am CST... just in case you are counting the days). If you are a gardener you have no doubt already begun to receive seed catalogs.  If you have a pollinator plot picked out this is an excellent time to figure out what plants you need to find in the spring.  Spring is the best time to divide plants from your yard to add to the pollinator plot.  Let us know if you need a plant list or sample layout to get you started.  There are a lot of resources we would love to share with you.
