The District 6420 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) event will be returning in 2022 with its original in-person format on May 6-8 at Lowden State Park in Oregon, IL.

This opportunity is open to all high school students in District 6420, however spaces are limited.

RYLA is designed to develop their leadership skills and provide some personal development. Clubs are encouraged to recruit students from their local area and submit their applications by the April 15 deadline. Students who are interested should contact their local Rotary club right away.

Dave Diamond, District RYLA Chairperson shared, "In today’s society, common sense seems to be challenged by competition, greed, and a sense of entitlement. Students feel the pressure in many ways: the need to get good grades, the need to get into a reputable college, and the need to align themselves with the right associates. The list goes on and on. Is there a need to change this mentality, and if so, where does it lie? Students will be challenged Friday night as they take part in a discussion on how to embrace leadership from an ethical perspective. It will change how they look at “what is right."

Application materials and information were sent to all club presidents but can also be found on the RYLA website (under Youth Programs and then, RYLA).
