From the Desk of the District Governor…

Wow! We are already more than a quarter of the way through our 2022-2023 Rotary year.

I spent much of the first quarter completing my official club visits. What a delight that was! I could not have been welcomed more kindly or more graciously. Thank you so much for the part you played in making my visits so special.

Moving forward, please let me know about your big service projects and fundraisers. I would love to share them with you.

October 24 is World Polio Day. As we all know, we are very close to eradicating this terrible disease. However, as the recent case in New York demonstrated, until we finish the job no one is safe.

Fortunately, Rotary and our partners have the tools we need. We remain optimistic that we are making progress and can achieve our goal of a polio-free world. Make sure you have done your part by contributing to Polio Plus or taking part in a Polio Plus fund-raiser. I look forward to attending polio events throughout the District during the month of October.

November 4-5 is our annual District Conference and you are invited! I hope you have already registered or will do so soon. The theme of our District Conference is ethical leadership and we will be approaching that topic from a variety of angles – sports and sport management, local government, volunteer, corporate, military, and academic. We also will get to participate in a Rotary service project to help the children of Ukraine who have arrived at two schools in the Ukraine Village of Chicago.

We have a wonderful venue – the Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. If you will be spending the night the Hampton Inn right down the street has given us a great District Conference rate ($109 plus taxes) with breakfast included. Parking is free at both locations.
Early bird registration (until October 20) is just $90. Register now by going to the District website at https://rotary6420.org. Just click on the link under Upcoming Events on the right-hand side of the home page. All the details are there.

IMAGINE the fun we will have!

Hope to see you soon.
