Time flies! With just weeks left in my year as Governor, it seems impossible that this experience is almost over.  That said, I need to share some reflections and express some gratitude.   From my perspective, there are several high points.  First and foremost, I truly appreciate the welcomes I received (with Marta in some cases) as I as I made my club visits
Honestly, going into the year, I was apprehensive about this part of the governor experience.  It would mean a lot of road time and a few overnights.  PDG friends assured me that the experience would be meaningful.  And it was!  Our clubs are fascinatingly diverse, but share a common dedication to community and global service.  Thank you all for welcoming and rewarding experiences!  Second, I truly appreciate the response to the fall District Conference in Rockford in November.  Coupled with the annual Foundation Dinner, the 100+ attendees demonstrated in full measure the energy for which District 6420 is known.  Thanks to Ciara Stahly, Conference Chair, for a job well done.  The Conference theme of Rotary Student Exchange was well received and impactful. The RYE program in 6420 is recovering from Covid with energy. The silent auction raised over $6,000 for the Foundation (to be matched $2-$1 by the Gates Foundation) Third, I am more than gratified by the response of clubs to the Governor’s Challenge to create, expand and/or maintain community pollinator plots.  Thanks to PDG Bobbi Burke and Learning Facilitator Margaret Larson for helping to establish the Environmental Services District Committee.  In the near future, I will be polling Clubs for estimates of their plots sizes and will report that to the District.  I appreciate the support of the AGs, as I am reminded that everything, we accomplish is the result of teamwork. As the year concludes, know that we are working on qualifying two Global Scholars from District 6420. Our RYLA Camp has relocated and served over 70 students this year.  Also, I’m excited to see that 6420 will have 18 Rotarians attending the International Conference in Calgary.

I must also express my sincere appreciation for the support that my wife, Marta, also a Rotarian, for her support, counsel and patience during this yearThanks, Hon!

Join me on June 29 at the installation of DGE Melissa McCormick as the District Governor for 2025-2026. She has exciting visions and goals for growing clubs and membership.  We all need to get on board with her leadership.
