The Walnut Rotary cordially invites you to our first annual “Call Us Crazy Cookout,” a fun-filled event celebrating community spirit, good food, and great company during what can be a dreary winter month. On Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Rotary Club of Walnut will be hosting its’ first ever “Call Us Crazy Cookout” at Walnut’s Veterans’ Memorial on Main Street. Proceeds from the event will go to offset expenses associated with the Bureau Valley School District’s “One School, One Book” program due to kick off on January 26, 2026.
The “One School, One Book” program, designed to engage families and students from Pre-K to 5th grade, involves the District-wide sharing of a single book, with chapters read by BV faculty, administration and community volunteers, and a series of interactive activities for the participating families, all designed to promote a love of reading in our youngest citizens. The program culminates on March 16th with a family friendly event, featuring a meal and fun games based on the book. The program is costly, as each BV family is given its’ own copy of the book, age-appropriate prizes are awarded for milestones reached by the children and to offset the expense of the program’s final event, ensuring it is an enjoyable success. The cookout, insanely scheduled for what will undoubtedly be a cold wintery Saturday (February 21), will feature pork chop sandwiches, brats, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, chips, bottled water, coffee, hot cocoa and a smores dessert. Free-will donations will be accepted.

We look forward to seeing lots of family, friends and community members on February 21, to help support Bureau Valley Schools’ “One School, One Book” program.
